Kane Hodder is an amazing band, dusted off their album off the other day and was reminded why that album is one of my most overplayed albums. I also gave a better listen to the We are Scientist album and come to the conclusion while it's pretty standard fair for that type of music, it was done pretty well and damn catchy and that's what matters, right! I havn't really listen to anything new latley since I havn't had much chance, I'm been trying to get around to getting the new Deerhoof album which will most likely be awesome.

For todays NOW!load I'm giving you Aberdeen city which is really sweet, it's like the killers meets Muse, but still very distinct in it's own right. I really liked the EP they had a while back and their full length only continues the same awesomeness.

Hey Guys,

I can't say I've listened to much since the last post. I've finally spiraled down and started listening to the rent sountrack, which made me dust off my copy of Hedwig and the Angry inch soundtrack, good rock musicals!!! Anyways, other than that I've been also a fan of the EP from the graduate. I always feel I grew out of the whole emo thing, but the occasional band grabs me for another quick escapade. I'll even go as far as to say the new Fall Out Boy has earned my approval for what it's worth, but still it's Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap that have dominated my IPOD as of late.

It's been awhile since I've posted cause of christmas and a bunch of other stuff, but I'm still listening to music fo' sho. I feel a little late on the whole Frou Frou/Imogen Heap craze, but I'm now really into it. Also been really into the new Regina Spektor and the new Joanna Newsom both really awesome if your looking to check out more female singer/songwriter stuff, they are both quite amazing talents.

The Album by Panda and Angel is also worth checking out, it takes a few listen to get a full grasp on but it's worth it.

Hey Guys,

I just got back from the 2006 CMJ Music Marathon in New York, and I had a great time. Overall, the music marathon wasn't the 24/7 thrill that it was in 2005 featuring the same calibur of acts and events, despite this it was still quite an event with a lot of good stuff to report back to all of you.

Vendors and Exhibits:

Before I continue in the next few exhibits I saw, the definite theme of this years CMJ was music distribution and promotion in the digital age. With the slow death of CD's and tangible forms of music distribution, more cost effective digital forms are being developed. Most of these forms were innovated and are worth looking into if your an artist or interested in starting a label.

Fizzkicks.com - There were two exhibits touting pre-paid download cards as the wave of the future when it comes to music distribution. For the most part, I agree. Cards let you still have the cool art desgin and make you feel that you actually purchased something tangible. Fizz Kicks lets you design your card with their card designer and print them out yourself, each with a unique serial code to protect from piracy. My only issue with this is having to print them out myself, looking at the quality of paper and printer they used for the demo cards they can look pretty bad, but to be fair that depends on how much the artist will in invest on paper and printing. This is the optimal option for fresh artists and labels to distribute music on a budget.

Dropcards.com - This is the more professional and nicer looking of the two pre-paid music card options. With DropCards the setup process takes a little bit longer and requires some extra work. This is a fair cost if you are emerging artists to make sure your distributing premium quality cards at your shows that have the quality of a credit card and are easy to keep in your wallet. I personally view Dropcards as the better premium option cause the cards have the appearance of something I'm willing to pay $5 for!

ReverbNation.com - Hands down my favorite new toy from this years CMJ. Last year I was thrilled with Pandora and the possibilities for finding music Pandora entailed. This year ReverbNation is a marketing experts wet dream as far as being able to track your artists performance... FOR FREE!!! With ReverbNation like most music sites you get a profile, you get to upload your music, tell people about your shows and all that fun stuff but that is not what makes reverb nation shine among the rest. As you get hits to your profile, ReverbNation breaks down visitors by age, gender, region and more in order to help you track your popularity and the best part there isn't an extra fee in doing so. Also, there is a thing called widgets you can use so that way when any information you type into RN can be html coded for cut and paste into myspace or any other HTML supported portals to get the information every where with ease. With an easy to run opt-in mailing list that can be filtered by demographics and ability via snocap.com to sell your music, you got one behemoth of a music service.

mecommerce.goodstorm.com - MeCommerce is a new technology to help sell your favorite products and make an extra revenue stream. You basically sell items as if you were directly selling them, and you keep a portion of the sale pretty straight foward.

Imeem.com - Another media site where you can upload music, video and photos. CMJ put up some sweet videos of the events on their Imeem so go check it out. http://cmj.imeem.com/

PlayIndies.com - Another Music Promotion site, touting to be a promotional site for music and film.

Artists and Music:

This year wasn't quite the star studded event as last year in which I got to see Coheed and Cambria, !!!, Cocorosie, Lady Soverign, Regina Spektor, Time Fite, Cocorosie, Supersystem, THe Draft, Against Me, Von Iva, THe Paradise Boys and many more. Although I did get see a few big names I've been wanting to see this year such as The Matches, Deerhoof, MSTRKRFT, and POS. So here's a breakdown of all the awesome stuff I saw.

Dragons of Zynth - These guys have tremendous potential to be one of the more original acts I've seen awhile. These guys blur the lines between Punk, Metal, and Afro Beat in a way I found quite enjoyable. Probably one of the best surprises of the trip. The Matches - The Matches are definetley a lot more than last years Pop Punk band of choice. Their new album proves that the transcend genre with the best of them with quirky songs and tongue in cheek honesty. These guys lived proved to put on a very entertaining show of well performed songs and high energy, definetley a band I expect to see grow very much over the next few years.

The Hot I.Q.s - Really awesome power pop, these guys were another band that came out of nowhere with really good music and just a good time. If you like bass heavy frontmen, this band has a lot to offer you.

Rediscover - Friends of mine, Rediscover played at the Purevolume.com showcase and recently becoming a four piece they have set the stage to hit the pop scene in a big way. Having seen these guys evolve over the last few years I'm excitied to see them continue to grow and evolve.

We are the Fury - I've been following this band and it's many incarnation since I was in high school (7 years ago) and never did I think when I went to college that they'd end up being good friends in my efforts to penetrate the NW ohio music scene. Two Band Names later they are still around and have evolved into one of the most raucaous rock shows around harkening back to the days of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, these guys remind the audience what rock really is. I'm really proud of what these guys have done and am anxious to see the ensuing global phenomenon they will be when their full length drops.

Game Rebellion - A Fusion of Rock, Metal, and Hip Hop done almost perfect. I went to the Canal Room to see POS and Building Better Bombs and got floored by one of the most energetic and flawless performances I've ever seen from Game Rebellion. These guys had the crowd captivated from the opening to the end with some of the most fist pumping adrenaline driving hip rock I've ever heard, if you ever find yourself in Brooklyn check these guys out.

Building Better Bombs - While Sadly I wasn't able to stay at the Canal Room Long enough to see the Solo sets by POS and Dead Prez I did stick around and see Building Better bombs the hardcore project featuring POS. If you like spaz, you'll like this band seeming like the love child of old Blood Brothers and The Locusts it was quite a fun show especially to see the audience react after watching Game Rebellion, good times.

Mary Timony - Just Really Good Indie Rock, just listen to it, it's awesome.

Erase Errata - I've heard of the troupe of ladies but I don't know if I was truly ready for the energy and quirky abrasive rock they presented. It was quite enjoyable and they are definetley an act worth catching if you get the chance.

Deerhoof - The last band I got to see this year and the crown jewel of bands I've been wanting to see this band needs no explanation, if you don't already obsess over this band then check out this weeks Now!load.

There was a lot more at this years CMJ such as a viewing of Borat which will be setting the bar a little higher for comedy and political satire. Overall it was a good Time and I'm excited to the see the music industry this year.

Hey Guys,

Today the My Chemical Romance Album comes out and I've just been really curious as how this album was gonna turnout with the release the first single "The Black Parade" which had some punk flavor mixed with Queen throwbacks. They had a streaming of the album online and later listening to it I'll have to say My Chemical Romance have put together an album that is just plain enjoyable. Gerard may not be the best vocalist live, but his inflections help make these songs what they are and the guitar work has gone a long way since the first album.

While this album is much more produced that the last album it works for the 80's music vibe of this album and really suites the music being made on this album. The album is by all means a pop album, and there is nothing but good with a bunch of songs with great hooks, and I'm not gonna buy the argument that pop album means selling out. If this album was made for money they could've done a lot less than what was done on this album and sold as many albums.

This album makes me think of queen and the movie the Labyrinth and the sort of dreamy and dark imagery both conjur, with the exception that this has a lot more of aggro punk edge mixed with some finger snapping cabaret stylings which they experimented with on Three Cheers. Overall whether it's up your alley or not, there is no denying that My Chemical Romance have found their place in the music world which only they occupy, love it or hate it, they do what they do and for the most part I think it's pretty darn enjoyable.

Hey Guys,

I finally got my hands on the new Stylex album and it's pretty darn good. Being student at Bowling Green university it's hard to be a fan of Stylex, they are the cream of the town, and it's well deserved. Having a very interesting mix electronics, punk, and a quirky sense of timing and humor create a electronic punk act that stand out among the pack in a very bold way. If you ever heard any of the previous Stylex albums you'll know that they mix very melodic synth lines, powerful bass with just the right mix of smart guitar and drums to create tunes that tetter totter between fun and chaos, but really, isn't chaos fun.

Well I can't say I have heard all that much latley, but I have been listening to the Fiery Furnaces album, Bittersweet Tea a lot, as well as Pigeon Johns new hip hop album which is amazing if you don't have it yet. I definetley been listneing to a lot of hip and I definetley recommend you check out wbgufm.com and listen in to my show sometime to hear some of the stuff I've been playing. On more of the rock side two bands have caught my eye, the AFI meet HIM band filled with dark imagery and vibes, I AM GHOST, and the sexed up rock band from Orange Peal records, Motion Picture Demise. Definetley check them out they are very enjoyable if you need a rock fix.

Once again it's been awhile since my last post, but trust I've been listening to a lot of stuff as of late. Mostly I've been going back to a lot of oldies but goodies including:

if you don't have any of those albums, you better rectify that, cause it's all really good stuff. I heard the new single from My Chemical Romance, each album I feel the band has polished up there act but then I see them live and see that Gerard voice is still as weak live as always, which is a shame cause he's a real good performer outside of his exremely limited vocal range. I'm still gonna get the album, but cause the songs are still pretty cathartic. The new Tv on the Radio is amazing, so make sure to pick that one up, I think I'll put that as todays NOW!load. Other than that been listening to couple of the new hip hop releases like the new Outkast and Spank Rock, keep checking to see what I recommend in the music world.

Hey Guys,

Not Much has went on like I said I've been getting into power metal since I went to Ozzfest (Breakout Performances: Trivium and Mastadon). So I've been listening to a lot of bands from europe like Tierra Santa, Angrus, Shadow Gallery and other awesome power metal bands i really say you should all go check them out when you have the chance.

I've also been having a blast with a little program called guitar pro, if your a musician get this. With the large archive of tabbed out music online guitar pro really helps you understand how most music is put together and really helps your writing.

I hate Jamison Parker, why does anyone like Jamison Parker is beyond me it's so boring and uninteresting but I guess a lot of music has been latley. There has definetley been some awesome highlights latley. Like the Cardinal Sin who features former members of Cadillac Blindside, I saw them last year live with Treysuno and The Lawrence Arms.

Hey everybody, sorry it's been awhile but man do I have lot to talk about today. I've been doing a lot of concert promoting, if you live in the northwest ohio go http://fnmusic.atspace.com and see what I got going. Also I've been doing a lot of listneing to music on myspace and PV, and I really must say go check out Happy Anarchy at purevolume, they are like an upbeat indie band with horns and keyboards, it's very badass.

For all you emo kids, here are some names you should familiarize yourself with, Rory, The Junior Varsity, and Animal Suit Driveby, head over to purevolume.com and check them all out now, they are damn good.

For all you hardcore lovers The Esoteric is pretty freaking sweet, very orignal atmospheric hardcore, sounds kind of weird, cause it is in a very very good way.

If your into hip hop you must go check out the Lab Rats at myspace.com and buy the new album by the living legends.

Well, I have heard one really sweet band laltey, they are of montreal. They play a synth filled indie pop but with a heavy beatles influence. Check them out at http://www.ofmontreal.net/. They are on tour with Grand Buffet one of the best hip hop duos ever, if havn't seen Grand Buffet before you should find a way to see them cause they are awesome. That's really all I got for now, but honestly, of montreal is so good they are worth making a whole post just for them.

Hey everybody, I'm not officially 20 years old and I have a cold, what a great day, haha. Well I thought I'd run thorugh some new releases and what I think of the bands so here we go.

Youth Gone Mad - Puke (http://www.youthgonemad.com/): This is real gritty rock with real grainy and beat up vocals, and the production is RAW, real raw, but for some reason I really think the songs are pretty sweet.

Bullet Treatment - The Bigger, The Better (http://www.bullettreatment.com/): This is old school hardcore, which I was never into, though i spend a lot of time NYC, the old school has never been my thing, but if it is, this 7" might just be for you.

Dexter Danger - Hellofornia (http://www.dexterdanger.com/) - I remember getting these guys old ep from the orange peel records tent at the warped tour. I have to say they've beocme a lot tigher but they are still a little bland. Their like Emo with beatles influence, saying that I know will make a lot of people gag, but it's cool, if your a fan of emo well these guys should float your boat.

In Stereo - Death before Emo (http://www.instereomusic.com/) - for a band that was only formed like 5 months ago, these guys have there shit together. But yes, this is very powerpop heavy witha dash of emo. It's pretty good, in a mainstream relient k kinda way.

The Universal indicator - Grandstand of Horror (http://www.theuniversalindicator.de/) - Well this is a very sloppy punk band from germany, seems they're more about politcs from their song titles. It's pretty good, despite being really off time punk fair, the songs do have some charm. Not my thing.

I've been fishing through myspace.com the last few days, you should all add my promotions agency as a friend if you read this. Http://www.myspace.com/fnmusic. Well as usual I'll go through my findings, fun times.

Tracy Bonham (http://www.tracy-bonham.com/) - I've really been into female singer/songwriters latley, mainly piano driven ones such Regina Spektor and Tori Amos. Tracy Bonham is more guitar driven like Cheryl Crow, I think it's pretty good.

S1 (http://www.myspace.com/s1) - I'm a big hip-hop fan, I'm mostly into more oldschool type stuff and into a lot of stuff on rhymesayers, saying that I do not like S1. S1 is that overproduced R&B rap that saturates mainstream television and is just overly lacking in substance, icky poo poo.

The Stairs (http://www.thestairs.com/) - This is very awesome indie rock, with very retro production, I want to compare them to the beatles but I think that's not the comparison I'm looking for. Though the Stairs rock so listen!

Veda (http://www.weareveda.com/) - Female fronted indie rock, sounds like how Tsunami Bomb Would sound like if they traded in their moshing shoes for a collection of Muse Albums.

Lyfe Jennings (http://www.2lyfe.com/) - This is pretty much R&B though it saids hip hop, though I believed R&B died with Marvin Gaye, tis isn't half bad, not overly produced not trying to be flashy. Not my type of things, but definetly a step in the right direction for genres that been a little lacking latley for the exception of John Legend who's amazing.

Well today is definetely a very special and joyous day, Cursive has announced that they will begin on new album, hopefully some live performances soon after cause I'd love to see them live, and for those you of you nore familiar with the band better get your ass out and do so, or I'll be mad.

In other news of more well know bands, Fall Out Boy have hit #1 on TRL, usally I'd not care about TRL, but I feel Fall Out Boy deserves the huge rash of success that's hit them lately, may they hit greater heights. Also Billy Talent has put some news songs on their purevolume.com and they are damn good, go listen to it now, you won't regret it.

A band that I've gotten pretty fond of is the Red Knife Lottery which is great for you blood brothers/locust fans, they so rock.

Dear Diary (http://www.deardiary.de/) - Well the intrumental work is pretty sweet, but the vocals are definetley kinda whiny and the chorus don't really stand out, but they are pretty cool for a German band.

Well, I'm having a blast here in Puerto Rico, I thought I'd post on some cool bands I've been listening to while I'm here. So here we go:

27 (http://www.27.vg/) - Sounding a lot like you typical female fronted indie pop band, it's mellow, relaxing, and just calling out to fans of Bjork and Portoisehead. It's really good study music atmosphere music to have going in the background.

A Cadence of Sorts (http://www.acadenceofsorts.net/) - these guys remind me of hey mercedes and far, emo, but more of the kind of emo that was good when the whole genres kinda got it's start emotional and angular no overpoduction or sugary pop punk hooks, it's the real deal, I like it.

Aiden (www.aiden.org) - I've been following this band for years, I love this band aggressive and just cool. They are what My Chemical ROmance should of been, now on Victory they should be soon taking over big on fuse when their album falls. I know this little review has tuned off a lot of people, but check them out, you'll be surprised.

Big City Dream (http://www.bigcitydreams.com/) - I hung out with these guys when they played Howards Club H, me and my buddy where the only ones there and they rocked. Again, they are in the vein of Hey Mercedes or the Promise Ring, really good powerpop.

Chiodos (http://www.chiodos.net/) - another band I've met and love, these guys are hardcore for people who love to dance... just so awesome, they're albums should be out soon.

Well, Luckily I have some internet access so I'm gonna make another post during my trip, woot woot. Well, since I don't have much time to really scour for music I'll do what I plan on doing most mondays, reviewing all the bands on the purevolume.com frontpage. So Here we go:

The PurePromos

Hot Vegas - a lot of people will say these emo/indie bands would be better if the genres wasn't so saturated, I tend to disagree, if you suck you suck. I think Hot Vegas is well, not that good, they play well enough but there is nothing really keeping me listening so I'll pass on this. I know there is those who'll eat up any band long as it's associated with the right genres take a look at TBS and Hawthorne Heights' fanbase... really, i know this is purevolume.com I think this review will apply to a lot of the bands I'll be listneing to.

The Arrival - These guys are little bit more fun to listen to, at least I can tap my foot to this and the vocals have some shining moments on occasion, but of for the most part read the hot vegas review for what I think of this band.

Point Hallow - Well, I'm a big glassjaw fan, so some post-hardcore still floats my boat, though this is still pretty bland again although the guitar work is more the aggressive angular approach I enjoy but the song seem so overdone... read Hot Vegas. Still, we're getting warmer still.

Faraway - This is a definetley a step in the right direction, more along the lines of the sort of approach of the kite-Eating tree, still a tad bland but definetley some potential showing in the band. At least I see it.

L.A.O - The recording is rough but I like this a more rock than emo, don't get me wrong, as you can tell form the other posts I've had a bit of indie kick latley, but I still appreciate good emo/hardcore. The band is like Emanuel light, though the vocalist could definetley use some work.

A True Story - when I first began frequenting purevolume.com I was much more into this whole emo thing, it's sort of quickly faded from me as I listen to more quality stuff at the station, basically what I'm trying to say is put this band with the rest of them in bland and untight. Just cause you wrote a song and can play it, doesn't mean people are gonna like it, can't people tell if their songs are awesome?

ok... fuck this, everything on purevolume.com aside from the few times I see The Stiletto formal and the Fury (who are both amazing) on there has been pretty lacking, let's go to myspace.com

Single File - Yes!!! Something good, myspace wins despite the awkward hard to get to work XML media player. Single File is good mellow indie pop for fans of bright eyes, sufjan stevens, or all the mellow acoustic pop stuff, it's good.

2mex of sungodsuns - some decent hip hop from the LA native, ummm... but if you want to listen to good hip hp just stick with Gym Class heroes and Sage Francis.

The Posies - really good alt pop, kinda like live or those early 90's bands,it's good

Well, I'm gonna be in puerto rico all next week so I won't be able to post till I return so I thought I should make one more post before I go. This one will probably not be too long so it's so soon since the last one but think of it as a favor to you guys, those who love music.

What I'm doing in this post is I'm going to the website of Tree Wave, a band I mentioned in a previous post and going through their tour dates and checking out the bands they are touring with on different dates and posting what I think about them.

Dogme 95 (http://missionlabel.com/dogme95/) - I actually like this, it's like singer song writer type stuff but with a lot of electronics to compliment the acoustic, I've made a few songs like this, but this guy is a lot better at it.

Super Love Attack (http://www.superloveattack.com/) - Really Psychedelic, if you dig a lot of classic rock or radiohead, give this band a try you might just like it.

The Tah-Dahs (http://www.tahdahs.com/) - HAHA, this band is awesome, it's quirky indie pop ala The Recital or Weezer with a dash of surf rock, these guys are the freaking shit!!! THEY HAVE BELLS!!!

Capillary Action (http://www.capillaryaction.net/) - The is more for fans of Godspeed or Mogwai, really awesome indie instrumentals, I would really love to see this live lot of stuff going.

Brief Candles (http://www.briefcandles.com/) - Your typical indie rock fare, not to big on the vocals, but other than that the guitar work is pretty solid and atmosphering. Give it a try if it sounds like your type of thing.

The Robot Ate Me (http://www.therobotateme.com/) - Out of all these bands these guys are hand down the coolest, they play what it sounds like old 20's and 30's silent movie scores on a tape player while a guy sings over them... it's genius. So genius they get the NOWload of the day!!!

Hey Guys,

Welcome to another edition of Music is Now! The Blog that keep you informed on the best in upcoming music. Today I'd like to focus on the midwest music scene, since I go to school at BGSU I'm pretty familiar with it so I'll spend some time on it.

Now if your familiar with the Midwest Music scene you might now of some amazing bands already such as Stylex, Thunderbirds are Now!, Javelins, and many others. In the indie seen I feel there a few other names you should keep your eye one, just from around Bowling Green is a real awesome band called bullet teeth who can sometimes come off similar to the blood brothers, they put on a eccentric live show that i'm sure anyone can enjoy. I mentioned Javlelins before, they are on a music label called Suburban Sprawl records, their whole roster is pretty good which includes El Boxeo, The Recital, and The Pop Project. Then there is my ol' buddys justin band Treysuno who taught me how fun theremins can be, they don't play around much anymore but when they do it's worth checking out if your big into bands like The Detachment Kit, check them out. Of course I know you Devo fans already probably listen to Stylex and Thunderbirds are now! but you should also check Canadas Electric Tiger Machine with it's angular electronic delivery that's sure to put a smile over your face. Some other names that you should familiarize yourself with Clive Staples, Chalk, Otto Vector, Rediscover, and The Flirting Kind.

On the not so indie/electronic side you probably pretty familiar with bands like Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy who've recently broken from the midwest. Well in that vein as in most scenes there is a flood of similar bands but of course there is always those that stand out. My personal favorites are Medford Drive and The Drama Summer, check them out as they might fit your fancy if you a fan of the before mentioned bands. I love to dance which why definetley my call for the next band to break big from the midwest is The Fury, currently on tour with Head Automatica and I am the Avalanche (ex-movielife), they are one of the most danciest, fun and unique bands around don't miss out on the Fury, or you'll later regret it.

I'll come back to the midwest on occasional but now to go over some bands I've heard over the last few days. If you havn't already notice latley I've definetley have had my taste for quirky indie bands, ones who really come off different. Deerhoof who remind me of early enon gone wrong is an awesome band you can check out at Epitonic.com among many other bands. On the same boat some bands that have recently released material are Tree Wave and mixel pixel, check them out or I'll beat you senseless. There is also a band from good ol' Conneticut you should check out called Welcome, if you love quirky indie pop, these guys will consume you with their odd jazzy but electronic filled sing-a-longs with the occasional hand clappings and spelling of words.

Well now for you guys who listen to emo/hardcore and the like, I'm kinda sad Monday in London broke up, if you never picked up there first album, get it, it's damn freaking good, especially if you like Muse. If you're a Harcore kid get the new This is Hell release, it's hardcore and Daryl Palumbo makes a guest appearance what more can you ask for other than a new glassjaw album! For your Morrissey fans there is the new Ad Frank album which will supply you appetite with some nice tunes.
